While much attention is paid to machine vision lighting,
cameras, lenses and software, most industrial engineers know very
little about the use of filters in industrial
imaging applications. They do not use them or are indifferent to their
use, and many are not aware that the types of filters that ISLAND OPTICAL SYSTEMS offers
are available. We would like machine vision engineers and system
integrators to be aware that the options that we offer are viable and
that they exist.
Many filters that ARE used in
machine vision systems today were originally intended for film
photography. Unfortunately, they
are not the right type or size of filter for electronic
imaging applications, lenses, or CCD cameras, because they only do HALF
of the job that is required.
ISLAND offers filters that have been specifically designed for all types of machine vision
lenses, cameras, and tasks. Our filters are compact and the
coatings applied are dense, rugged and environmentally stable. We produce
them using large-capacity equipment so that our prices can be low and
we can stock them for shipping the same day they are ordered.
ISLAND filter designs are different
for many reasons. We have stock filters for all types and
colors of LED, laser diode, halogen and fluorescent lighting commonly
used in industrial applications. We have filters for UV
fluorescence applications. Custom sizes and mounts can usually be
produced within one to two weeks. Our rotating polarizers come standard
with locking screws. We also take into account the spectral response of
most CCD or CMOS cameras in all of our designs. Most industrial vision
cameras in use today have significant sensitivity in the near IR and
near UV. This can be 50% or more of the light that a camera sensor is
receiving. In order to control contrast and ambient light without
having to fabricate a shroud, it is important to block this light as
well as other ambient light.
ISLAND bandpass filters, unlike typical
photographic filters, will do this – at
little or no additional cost. Usually our customers can receive them
and immediately put them to use the day after they are ordered, and
they are durable and stable enough to withstand repeated cleaning and
long outlast the vision systems they are used in. In this sense,.
ISLAND filters are clearly better
at controlling ambient light and maximizing contrast unlike those
offered by other companies. And in machine vision, there is no such
thing as too much control or too much contrast. Contact us today and see
the difference!
